I assess the crowd around the fliers as inconspicuously as I can--I don't want to be noticed just yet. To blend in, I try to get the attention of a barmaid and order a glass of red wine.

Mental note -- Barich is the captian's son.

Was I given any instructions by ***** ******* as to what to look for? Did they not provide ******* ***** ****** for a reason?

First and foremost, I look for a lack of desperation among the ramshackle group before me. I don't want to take along mercenaries who nobody else would hire. I also want to keep in mind that I'll be traveling with these people for a while--I want companions who look composed, professional and... not too drunk.

You casually saunter up and order a short wooden mug of 5 year vintage red elven wine from Evereska while you peruse the crowd. There are drunk and disorderly warriors socking each other hard in the armor. There are a few clerics of various faiths. One human in dark purple robes feverishly prays over a book and keeps looking around nervously. Another human with a large symbol upon his breast stands and talks with a human warrior in his early 20's. A couple dwarf warriors argue over who has won the most battles. A strange looking woman with a red fire in her eyes stands away from the group and peers around the room, her eyes eventually settling on you. She has pointed ears and two small black nubs like horns protrude from her jet black hair. Her teeth look fairly sharp as she licks them with a pointed tounge. As she looks you over you get an uneasy feeling about her. You have heard of her kind, Tieflings. Cursed or Blessed depending on the outlook with a gift from each of their parents, one human and one demonic. Usually the result of the union of a Succubus and a human man these creatures are odd indeed and not welcome many places in civilized Faerun. She seems interested in the job though and paces back and forth looking at you. A lone elf cloaked in green torn cloth sits at a table smoking a pipe and playing with an old dagger. There is also a halfling under the table who promptly removes most of the groups coin purses and moves towards the door keeping in the shadows and moving very carefully through the crowd.
